City of Newark

The city of Newark has the largest student population in the State of New Jersey and it is one of original Urban Districts in the country. Because the approximately forty five thousand students come from the distinct sections of the town with 275,000 residents, there are often many political challenges in reaching a consensus on governance and policy. Additionally, this is a district under State control since 1996. The Superintendents until the search involvement of Associates of West Hudson, were therefore selected and appointed with very limited community involvement. For the first time in over a decade, the community became actively engaged and there emerged, through the Board of Education intensive involvement and a community election, a consensus choice for the Superintendent. This historic and significant conclusion came largely through the direction and skill of the Associates of West Hudson.
